If they were still alive today....

...these distinguished folk would be celebrating their birthday today:

Paris-based American expatriate writer/intellect Gertrude Stein would be 137 today.

Brilliant Triple Self-Portrait by Norman Rockwell, who would be 117 today.

Distinguished British cabaret chanteuse, Mabel Mercer, 111.

"Rat Pack" sidekick Joey Bishop, 93.

Preternaturally composed, unconventionally lovely child actress Peggy Ann Garner (who won an Oscar for her splendid  performance in A Tree Grows in Brooklyn in 1944) would be 79 today.

Large, eccentric and brilliantly talented Victor Buono, 73.  His most famous role was "Edwin" in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? for which he most certainly deserved the Oscar (but lost to Ed Begley in Sweet Bird of Youth--needless to say, Bette should have won as well):

And HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the lovely Mary Carlisle, who is still alive and well at 99.  She is one of the very last living stars of the early "talkies," having made her debut in films in 1930.  She was a frequent co-star of Bing Crosby's in his early Paramount musicals.
