RIP: Mary Cleere Haran

Very sad news today....the cabaret world lost one of their favorite performers, the wonderful Mary Cleere Haran.  She died today of injuries she received when she was struck by a car while riding her bicycle in Florida.  She was 58 years old.  Her clear, beautiful voice and intelligent delivery of lyrics were her hallmarks.  Mary was noted as perhaps the most dogged historian of the American songbook, and if you attended one of her shows, you left with a wealth of knowledge of the history and background of each tune she sang.  I met her a few times and she was a warm, lovely person.  A great loss indeed....this very nice tribute to her appeared today on YouTube...goodbye, Mary...you'll be missed....

My favorite of her recordings is this one (which includes "This Funny World," heard in the above video tribute).
